I'm Devon Garbalosa. I changed my major from Finance to Information Systems because a few Excel formulas made me think software engineering would be easy. A decade later, I've learned that the code is hard — but so is everything around it. Now I'm a Solutions Engineer at Laravel, the framework that lit the fire in the first place.

The Short Version

I started in data engineering. Found Laravel. Built internal tools that quietly spread through an enterprise because they actually worked. Grew into architecture, then leadership — cloud-native systems on AWS, distributed teams, and all the relationships, planning, and deadlines that nobody warns you about in school.

Along the way I visited 34 national parks and became a dad twice. Both required more patience than I came wired with.

What I Actually Do

At Laravel, I sell Laravel Cloud — mainly Private Cloud — and help teams migrate their workloads to a platform built specifically for the framework. Before that, I built event-driven platforms, compliance-aware deployment pipelines, and AI/ML workflows in financial services — where "move fast and break things" gets you a meeting with Legal.

I live with ADHD. It shapes everything — how I lead, how I learn, how I design systems. It makes me impatient with unnecessary friction and obsessive about clarity. Both of those turned out to be useful.

Why This Blog Exists

I'm a starter by nature. I love the 0-to-1 part — the blank canvas, the first commit, the rush of a new idea. Shipping? That's the part where I'm kicking and screaming and rewriting the whole damn thing for the fourth time. Writing helps me slow down long enough to figure out what I actually believe — before the next context switch wipes it clean.
